What is EA?

The JISC EA Early adopter study describes EA as a high-level strategic technique designed to help senior managers achieve business and organisation change. It provides an evolving, dynamic way of describing and aligning the functional aspects of an organisation, its people, activities, tools, resources and data/information. This helps ensure that they work more effectively together to achieve business goals. EA is also about achieving desired future change through design. It holds that by understanding existing information assets, business processes, organisational structures, information and application infrastructures an ‘as is’ state can be described. It is then possible to use this understanding to plan something different, new and innovative, described as the ‘to be’ state.
